Bingham 33, Alta 27 (10/24/13)

October 25, 2013

SANDY, UT — Bingham capped off another perfect regular season.

The No. 1-ranked Bingham Miners rallied to beat the Alta Hawks 33-27 in the annual “Black and Blue Rivalry” on Thursday night at Alta High School. More than 15,000 were in attendance for a game that was part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.

Bingham trailed 27-10 at halftime, allowing close to 350 yards. But that didn’t happen in the second half, as Bingham held Alta to just 39 yards and zero points to win in the series for the fourth time in five tries.

Landon Measom caught a 63-yard TD pass from Kyle Gearig to be named the Great American Rivalry Series Most Valuable Player. Gearig threw for two scores and ran for 95 yards in the second half for the Miners.

Quarterback Chipper Lucero threw for over 230 yards and three TDs — two to Mack Richards — for the Hawks.

This was the final game of the regular season for both Bingham (10-0) and Alta (4-5).

What is the Great American Rivalry Series?

Each fall for over a century, high school football has been the centerpiece for families and communities on Friday night. In 2004, iHigh, Inc. created the Great American Rivalry Series to celebrate this uniquely American sport and the cultural phenomenon of “Friday Night in America.” The Series shines the spotlight on top high school football rivalries across the nation, where long-standing traditions are valued, expectations are sky high, and followers are committed.
