Classic Pennsylvania HS Football Rivalry Receives National Attention
Harrisburg, PA: September 12, 2014 – It’s back to the glory, roaring fans, camaraderie, sideline chants, sold out seats and head to head battles between Great American Rivals. With some of the longest running matches in the history of high school football, these annual showdowns come with great football, hard earned sweat and hometown pride.
The 2014 Great American Rivalry Series, presented by the United States Marine Corps and AT&T, hits the road this season to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on September 12th to highlight one of the most heated rivalries in the country: Bishop McDevitt vs. Cumberland Valley
For the 11th year, the Great American Rivalry Series has selected an exclusive collection of top–notch rivalries across the country, covering 36 states and 92 cities throughout the country. Wrapped in tradition, these annual battles motivate the whole community, celebrating the schools, their teams, and their fans.
Series founder and CEO Rick Ford notes that, “With all the traditions of bonfires, pep rallies, and parades, high school football has brought together communities to watch their teams compete in these classic battles for more than a hundred years.”
The Bishop McDevitt Crusaders vs. Cumberland Valley Eagles will take the field for week 3 of the 2014 Series. Over 6,000 fans are expected to pack the stands at Bishop McDevitt High School to witness this classic Pennsylvania clash between these long-time rivals

The Bishop McDevitt-Cumberland Valley game was selected as one of the top 100 must-see match ups for the 11th Annual Series. Each and every season this game continues to be a PA statewide marquee matchup. Both programs are rooted in great winning tradition. The Crusaders lead the overall series 18-12-1 and won last year’s matchup, 27-7.
The winning team earns year-long bragging rights, and the Great American Rivalry Series Champions trophy, presented by the Marines. The game’s Most Valuable Player and the top student-athlete from each school are also recognized as part of the series and, for two alumni at each game, the Friday night spotlight will shine again as they are inducted into the 11th class of the Great American Rivalry Series Hall of Fame.
