It was a perfect night for football in Salt Lake City, Utah as the Miners and Hawks face their Rivalry game. The Bingham Miners (1-1) and Alta Hawks (2-0) clashed in an on the field war of Utah football titans this Saturday night. In one of the largest high school football games in America the Alta Hawks were victorious under the lights of Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Bingham opens the game with a long drive to the 5-yard line The drive staled on an incomplete pass on 3rd down. Then Bingham’s kicker, Jaron Maxfield, kicks a field goal to put the Miners on the scoreboard first, 3-0. Alta’s first play is a strong 8 yard run up the middle to set the tone of the game. Alta’s kicker, Tanner Valerio, ties the game up at 3 a piece. The action started heating up at the end of the first half. #1 Mike Richards scored Alta’s first touchdown. Bingham’s running back Tonga Manu rushes the ball on the 1-yard line for a touchdown with 10 seconds left in the first half bringing the haltime score to a tie, 10-10.

The second half gets started with Alta scoring the first touchdown in the third. A near fumble by Bingham leads to a punt on 3rd down at the end of the third quarter.

In the last quarter of the night, Alta misses a Field Goal with and a chance to nearly put the game away, but the ball is pushed slightly left of the post. Bingham followed the drive with a touchdown. The Miners decided to try and go for the win but were denied as the ball was intercepted to seal the game for the Hawks.

The victory ends Alta’s 4 game losing streak in Utah’s annual Black and Blue Classic. Both the Miners and Hawks fought with pride but a missed extra point in the 4th led to the unexpected Bingham loss.

The Great American Rivalry Series presented by the United States Marines later named Alta’s very own #9 Max Broman as the Most Valuable Player, who led the field with key plays and captured a win after an Alta 4th and 7 pass was successful late in the 4th quarter. The final score of the night was 17-16, Alta High School.
