2012 Scholar Athletes: Kyle Cantu and Dustin Soto

November 3, 2012

From Canyon High School- Kyle Cantu:

Kyle holds a 4.46 GPA and has been in the Cowboy Football program for 4 years as well as taking multiple honors and advanced placement courses. He would like to attend the University of Southern California and pursue a degree in electrical engineering, but has not finalized his decisions on his college plan yet. Kyle would like to thank the Great American Rivalry Series for this honor.

From Hart High School- Dustin Soto:

Dustin carries a 4.34 GPA and scored a 2030 on the SAT. His career plans are clear, which also has a direct correlation on where he wants to go to college. He is trying to get into the United States Naval Academy, a tight end and defensive on the Hart football team. He also eventually wants to become a marine. His best subjects are math and science. Dustin sees a future in engineering after serving his country, something he has planned on for several year. Dustin is proud to be in a family occupied by members of the Marine Corps. “They walk around with their chest puffed out so I want to be like that. I want to be one of the best out there, an officer in the Marine Corps and lead Marines.” He says. “I am a firm believer that hard work pays off. I‘d rather work right now and have an easier path instead of work my way up a more difficult path!”

What is the Great American Rivalry Series?

Each fall for over a century, high school football has been the centerpiece for families and communities on Friday night. In 2004, iHigh, Inc. created the Great American Rivalry Series to celebrate this uniquely American sport and the cultural phenomenon of “Friday Night in America.” The Series shines the spotlight on top high school football rivalries across the nation, where long-standing traditions are valued, expectations are sky high, and followers are committed.
